Despite what my infrequent posting would suggest, I do actually eat well more than once a week.
The reasons that these meals often fall to the wayside varies. Sometimes the entire experience isn’t worth a whole post, I don’t get enough pictures to write about it, or life gets in the way and too much time goes by the write a fair review. Regardless of the reasons, in the 8 months or so that I’ve been writing this blog I have accumulated a backlog of unused pictures and untold stories. And it’s high time I do some spring cleaning.
So here are some quick shots of what I’ve been eating lately.
This bone marrow recipe actually came from Jennifer McLagan’s Fat, but as you can tell I slightly overcooked it. The flavor was still good though. This was supposed to be a full post, but I didn’t think she’d want me to publish pictures of a blackened rendition of one of her recipes. Whoops.
Best. Sweetbreads. Ever.
I never posted about that night at Floataway, partially because most of the meal didn’t blow me away, and mostly because this was the only picture that turned out even close to usable. I hadn’t yet gotten over my self-consciousness of getting caught snapping photos by the servers. Thankfully for all of us, I’ve moved past that phase of my life.
While the food definitely isn’t 100% of the reason I keep going back to Leon’s, I never swing through there without getting an order of the Pig Smorgas. Benton’s country ham, melted gruyere grand cru, cherry jam, and pineapple on toast. Thank you sir, may I have another?
That is a sous vide egg topped with homemade hollandaise on top of a slab of sous vide porkbelly. Not the prettiest dish that I’ve ever cranked out, but I loved it. If I could have sous vided the English muffin, I would have.
Not as good as the Sweetbreads from Floataway, but damn good none-the-less.
So that pretty much cleans out most of my leftovers. I guess this means I’ll have to actually write a real post pretty soon.
Catch you kids on the flipside.

Lots of good looking food. Still haven’t tried The Kind Pie.
I’ve only eaten at Floataway twice but I’ve left unimpressed both times. Besha’s recent review may get me to go again. I’ve never tried the pizza there.
Nice work.
Yeah, I don’t think I could tell you what else I ordered that night other than the sweetbreads. Everything else was pretty….”eh”. But the sweetbreads….sweet jesus. They were sitting in a pool of their own jus and the flavors were so complex that I refused to believe the server when she said it wasn’t some complicated sauce.
I hadn’t yet broken my rule of not posting about mediocre experiences after only 1 visit, like I did with Eugene. But Eugene didn’t serve me anything that came close to those sweetbreads.
