Now Open: Flip Burger Buckhead

It seems so long ago that Richard Blais, Atlanta’s first Top Chef hometown hero, opened Flip Burger in West Midtown in 2008.

Though Atlanta had plenty of fantastic hamburger joints that had been in business for years before Flip opened their doors, Blais’ celebrity combined with his left-of-center cooking techniques and wildly creative burger selection stirred up a foodie frenzy. I might even go so far as to call it a “hoopla”.

Thus began the so-called Atlanta “burger wars”.

This Tuesday marked the grand opening of Flip’s 2nd Atlanta location, right in the heart of Buckhead. Taking over the vacant Blockbuster in the Tuxedo Festival shopping center on Roswell, Rd…

Live To Feast is Going Legit

It would seem that the cat is now out of the bag.

Though I’m still trying to wrap my head around how this happened, thanks to some reorganization over at the AJC, I can now add “professional food writer” to my resume. I’m not sure who was asleep at the wheel over there when they decided to hire me for this, but I’m definitely not complaining.

Along with Gene Lee from EatDrinkMan and Jenny Turknett from Goinglowcarb.com, I am now part of the new AJC Dining Team. I’m going to cover the “Popular Eats” category, so I’ll be out hunting for the best burger/pizza/BBQ/bar food spots in town, both inside and outside the perimeter.

So, what will this mean for livetofeast.com?

Well, I’ll still post some things that are exclusive to Live To Feast, mostly things that wouldn’t fall under my beat at the AJC. John K. will still cover all of the big-name fine dining spots in town, but that doesn’t mean that I won’t occasionally post on some of those myself here. Plus, all of my posts for the AJC Food & More blog will appear (in a truncated form) on livetofeast.com.

You can read the complete AJC blog post about the new dining team and our responsibilities on AJC’s Food and More here: http://blogs.ajc.com/food-and-more/2010/10/17/meet-your-new-ajc-dining-team/

Live To Feast Made It a Whole Year

As I lay in bed just a few minutes ago, reflecting on how I’d been up working until 3 AM last night and wanted nothing more than to fall asleep, something dawned on me: In a matter of minutes, it would be October 12th, and Livetofeast.com would officially be one year old.

Well, dammit.

I can’t just go to sleep now. I pretty much have to get up and write a reflective post about the significant “impact” that the blog has had on my life. That’s what you do in this situation, right?

I’m not going to ramble on about how much this blog has meant to me (more than I let on), and how many awesome people I’ve gotten to know because of it (too many to name), or how much it has fed my insatiable need for validation (borderline Audrey II).

But I do want to thank those of you that have stuck with me over the past year, especially during the posting drought that has been the last few months. I assure you that is going to change. Pretty soon, I might actually start posting with the frequency of a real blogger.

So, thanks. Because if y’all didn’t stop by to read this stuff, I’d have probably given it up by now (see previous Little Shop of Horrors reference).

And then God only knows what I’d be doing with myself at 2 AM every Monday night.

Smooches,

LTF

Scraps II

Time for some housecleaning.

Not every meal that I eat merits a full post, but many dishes still deserve to be shared. As I’m now in the habit of photographing almost everything that I put in my mouth, I accumulate backlogs of food porn.

So here is what I’ve been eating lately.
